Scientific Discovery, Process Models, and the Social Sciences

چکیده
In this chapter, we review research on computational approaches to scientific discovery, starting with early work on induction of numeric laws before turning to construction of models that explain observations in terms of domain knowledge. We focus especially on inductive process modeling, which involves finding a set of linked differential equations, organized into processes, that reproduce and explain multivariate time series. We review the notion of quantitative process models, two approaches to constructing them, and their successful application in ecological settings. After this, we explore their relevance to computational model discovery in the social sciences, including reasons they seem appropriate and challenges to inducing them. In closing, we discuss other frameworks that researchers have developed to construct models of social phenomena.

Explaining the Concept and Models of Serendipity In Information Search Process
Background and Aim: Searching for information is not always a targeted activity; it can also be done involuntarily. The serendipity has the ability to find information randomly and as something happy, something unexpected, or a pleasant surprise. This paper examines and analyzes the concept of serendipity and its models in the process of information searching. Methods: The present study uses a ...
متن کاملUNDERSTANDING BEHAVIOR OF ANTINEOPLASTIC MOLECULES BASED ON MLR MODELS
New statistic based models provide a wide area of prediction equipments for different science areas. Among these fields biology have just entered the contest of interdisciplinary sciences. Drug discovery is a long and expensive process which could be decreased with theoretical approaches. In this study, 500 reported assayed anti cancer molecules were extracted from Science Direct articles, sket...
متن کاملApplication of Rough Set Theory in Data Mining for Decision Support Systems (DSSs)
Decision support systems (DSSs) are prevalent information systems for decision making in many competitive business environments. In a DSS, decision making process is intimately related to some factors which determine the quality of information systems and their related products. Traditional approaches to data analysis usually cannot be implemented in sophisticated Companies, where managers ne...
متن کاملCurrent Models for Predicting Drug-induced Cholestasis: The Role of Hepatobiliary Transport System
Drug-induced cholestasis is the main type of liver disorder accompanied by high morbidity and mortality. Evidence for the role of hepatobiliary pumps in the cholestasis patho-mechanism is constantly increasing. Recognition of the interactions of chemical agents with these transporters at the initial phases of drug discovery can help develop new drug candidates with low cholestasis potential. Th...
